“art museums should build and be engaged deeply within their communities in order to foster belonging, trust, and understanding.”

I joined this field several years ago because I believe that art museums aren't simply repositories for art or historical artifacts for the posterity of the general public. In the 21st century, art museums should be centers for cultural exploration and wonder. They should also be spaces that nurture critical and sometimes difficult dialogue. But mostly, art museums should build and be engaged deeply within their communities in order to foster belonging, trust, and the understanding that art offers: opportunities for appreciation of our everyday experiences, just as much as the extraordinary moments of life.”
